A quick update - For those who don't want to read the whole 20 day trip

Sorry for the delay in the blog. Internet has been relatively nonexistent at the campgrounds we have been staying at. When we have been in a larger center (Windhoek and Swakopmund) its been on a public holiday so everything has been closed.

I'm on the Blackberry (on the truck) now since we are back in South Africa so no big entry today but I will get back with pictures and stories for most of the sites we've seen soon.

After the Delta, we drove for 2 days to get to Windhoek for Xmas. Its a beautiful city every bit as first world as Toronto (but much cleaner and neater). Its not a large town but is nicely surrounded by mountains. We stayed outside the city at a nice campground.

After Windhoek, we went to Etosha National Park to see the Etosha Pan which is like Bonniville Salt Flats in the US. Then it was on to Spitzkopf which is like Australia's Ayer's Rock. Then it was on to Swakopmund for New Years.

Swakopmund is wonderful and an adventure center for these tours. Shawn, Rachel and I went Sand-boarding. That was a lot of fun but a hell of a lot more work as there are no detachable quads or sixpacks to deliver you to the top of the 150 metre high dune. Rachel and I managed 7 runs and I think Shawn did 10. Its quite a challenge to carry that board up a (very) steep dune wearing snowboarding boots. The slope is very steep as the boards need that to move. You also have to wax them every run despite them being refaced with Melamine bottoms.

It takes a bit to get used to it but is good fun. I had a spectacular wipeout right at the bottom crossing one of my previous tracks. I did 5 runs after that but after a few days I'm sure I cracked some bones in my left hand. I can move my fingers fine but the bones are sore along with my arm about where my watch is. I've got it splinted and other than the bumpy roads am fine but Rachel forgot about it yesterday (5 days later) and pulled my (unsplinted) hand in a nice pool with stopped at in Ai Ais Hotsprings and I nearly jumped out of my skin. I'd not have missed the sandboarding however so I'm not complaining. It may make driving in SA a bit of a challenge with the shifter on the left though!

On New Years day we drove down through the Namib Desert and sand dunes to climb Dune 45 for sunrise the next day. The scenery was just spectacular. Then down to the Fish River Canyon which is the worlds 2nd Grand Canyon. Yesterday we drove 570 kms to SA on the Orange River at Vioolsdrif.

Today we are stopping at Springbok and then we'll camp in the Cedarberg Mts with the bushmen. Then on the 6th we end up in Cape Town.

More details to come.
