For those of you that have been paying attention to our itinerary, we were supposed to be in Port St Johns the night after next. If you've been watching the news, they just had another fatal shark attack making Second Beach (where we were planning on staying) the most deadly beach in the world with six fatal attacks in as many years.
Needless to say, we've changed our itinerary and we aren't going near the place now. Apparently, the poor guy fought the shark for 5 minutes before they got him out. He then bled to death from his injuries. I've read that the locals do some sort of ritualistic animal slaughter there that they think brings in the aggressive bull sharks. These aren't like most sharks which take a bite and realize you aren't a fat juicy seal and let go. These ones go for it all.
Anyway, off to the beach in Plettenburg Bay. Its a blue flag one so very safe.
